The Real Ghostbusters

You know, sometimes it’s best to leave your childhood behind you and never revisit it. Case in point, the crappy TV I use to watch as a kid. Knight Rider, Dukes of Hazard, He-Man… I bought the first season of all of these on DVD; and I was just terribly horrified that I use to enjoy this wretched sewage. I make fun of kids for watching things like the Power Rangers; but Jesus, I use to watch a show with hillbilly moonshine runners jumping their trans-am over swamps. ANYWAY, I thought this would be the case again when I got the Complete Real Ghostbusters DVD set for Christmas. Well, imagine my surprise when I popped it in and found that, not only does it hold up, but it is actually BETTER than I remember it. For a little kids cartoon made to sell toys, the characters were incredibly well round; and most of the stories were rather epic in scale. Even better, a lot of the themes and jokes were crafted to entertain parents forced to watch the Saturday morning swill with the kiddies. Hell, there is actually an episode featuring the Necronomicon and Cthulhu from H. P. Lovecraft, cause you know every kid in the 80′s was clambering for a great Lovecraft yarn. SO, after watching about 50 episodes, I had to draw some of the characters. Here is a sketch for a promo piece I drew of the ghostbusting crew. you can check out the final illustration in my store section.
